LOVE GOD. LOVE PEOPLE. LIVE WITH PURPOSE.

Matamata Bible Church is a group of Bible-believing Christians doing life together — employees and entrepreneurs, farmers and health workers, musicians and stay-at-home mums, teachers and students, counsellors and Christian camping workers, babies and retirees.

What began as a handful of men and women meeting in a small building in 1953, has grown into a vibrant church, committed to serving each other and the community around us.

We are community and youth focused, with a heart for missions.

OUR MISSION

BUILD MATURE CHRISTIANS

Supporting each other and teaching the Bible so that our church community grows under the conviction and power of the Holy Spirit.

CREATE A LOVING COMMUNITY

Living in such a way that all races, genders and social groups find acceptance and love.

SHARE THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST

Communicating effectively the truth about Jesus Christ and the new life He offers to all who will believe.

OUR VALUES

LIVING AS PEOPLE ON A MISSION

We are sent people. We will go outside the church into our community. So we will continually ask ourselves: How can I care for the needs of others among the people I come in contact with? We commit ourselves to sharing our faith by coming alongside people where they are at and showing that Jesus loves them by loving support, both in practical care and in what we say. (Matthew 28:19-20).

LOVING COMMUNITY

A loving community is a place where everyone is accepted as they are. It is a place where we look for opportunities to serve others and not the other way round. It is a place where everyone is safe from any form of abuse. It is a place where everyone is welcome. (John 13:34-35).

PRAYERFUL DEPENDENCE

We recognise that apart from God we can do nothing. We have been called to move out of our comfort zone to further God's mission and we recognise that we are dependent on Him for both specific direction and enablement to do this. So we are committed to prayer seeking God's perspective in all we do so that He is at the centre, and is the focus, of all we do. (James 4:13-16).

MULTI-GENERATIONAL, GOD-CENTRED WORSHIP

We are committed to providing, as far as possible, opportunity for all age groups to experience meaningful worship services. Our focus for worship is the majesty and beauty of our God and Saviour. (Psalm 96:8-9).

TRUTH THAT CHANGES LIVES

We believe that the Spirit of God uses the Word of God to transform lives not merely fill us with information. We value the plain-spoken, culturally appropriate explanation of God's word so that we are equipped for living. (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

HUMBLE SERVANTHOOD

We are committed to serving each other - to seeing a need and meeting it. Leadership of others will be underneath supporting and not over above controlling. (Mark 10:42-45).

SHARED MINISTRY

We believe God has gifted each and every believer to be able to contribute to a ministry to others in the church. We will encourage and embrace the contribution of every member. (1 Peter 4:10).

EFFECTIVE SMALL GROUPS

We are committed to working together in small groups to both support each other and to become an effective force in meeting the needs of the community around us so that the love of Jesus Christ is demonstrated in practical ways. (Matthew 25:31-46).

STRONG FAMILIES

We are committed to building strong family relationships. This means supporting men to become better husbands and fathers, women to be better wives and mothers, and children to respect their parents and brothers and sisters. The importance of children will be reflected by an emphasis on youth ministry, with people of all ages contributing to this. (Ephesians 5:21-6:4).
